CRIME NEWS

  • A toddler died on Feb. 17, 2024 when eight children were left alone at home as two moms went to a casino — one mom, Terica Denise Scott, pleaded guilty to reduced charges of negligent homicide and child cruelty, receiving a suspended 15-year sentence, a $2,500 fine, and five years of probation.  The Advocate
  • A Zachary man, identified as 28-year-old Austin Granger, was arrested on Jul 9 after deputies found files of child pornography and evidence he solicited minors during a search prompted by a Twitter tip—his charges include counts for pornography involving juveniles and computer-aided solicitation.  WVLA

CULTURE NEWS

  • Two local groups filed a lawsuit in New Orleans District Court on Wednesday for more access to the Buena Vista Plantation Cemetery near a planned petrochemical complex in St. James — they allege that a U.S. arm of Formosa Plastics imposed harsh visitor protocols and they seek court orders to allow headstone placement and further archaeological investigation.  The Advocate

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Louisiana State Supreme Court accepted an agreement today to suspend Niles Haymer from practicing law for three years.
