CRIME NEWS

  • Baton Rouge deputies, working with federal agencies, seized drugs and nine firearms at 12 locations on Tuesday in a major bust tied to a local rap label+ they arrested six suspects while two remain at large.  WBRZ
  • Police closed two Gonzales smoke shops on Tuesday after illegal vaping products were found and arrested 25-year-old Qusai Yousef from Baton Rouge on charges of selling and distributing Schedule I drugs + further charges are pending for the second shop.  WVLA
  • The West Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested three people after a stolen car left Baton Rouge and was chased into their parish on Tuesday, July 15, where deputies used spike strips & the Baton Rouge Police Department joined the pursuit with no injuries reported.  WVLA

  • LSU Law Dean Alena M. Allen announced that three Class of 2025 graduates + Justin Benton Alford Jr. for leadership, Kayla Kennedy Meyers for service, and Daniel Gunn for academic excellence + were honored with inaugural dean’s awards, with each receiving a $500 prize from the Dean’s Council.  The Advocate
  • Representatives from Livingston LIGO announced on Monday in Glasgow that they detected a black hole merger featuring an object 225 times the size of the Sun—making it the largest observed merger to date. The discovery, jointly detected with a facility in Washington, adds key insights into gravitational wave research.  WBRZ

  • A low pressure system near Florida is set to bring heavy rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds to south Louisiana as it moves into the Gulf—forecasters say rains may reach Baton Rouge and nearby areas from today through Sunday. Baton Rouge is expected to see 4—6 inches of rain with a higher flooding risk from Friday to Saturday morning.  The Advocate
