  • Charity Christian Center will host its 14th annual back-to-school giveaway on July 26 at 9 a.m. at 871 O’Neal Lane, where children will receive free uniforms, shoes, books, school supplies, food, games, and health screenings — with local donations and a partnership with Baton Rouge General bringing in dieticians and nurses — to help families get ready for the school year.  WVLA

CRIME NEWS

  • Officials hosted a Tuesday news conference at 10 a.m. in Lafayette at the U.S. Attorney’s Office to detail federal activity that led to two police chiefs being taken into custody in Baton Rouge, after raids on the officers’ homes and an ongoing investigation by the FBI, IRS, and Homeland Security Investigations — with Louisiana State Police assisting.  WBRZ
  • Two alleged drug dealers were arrested by the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office after a multi-month investigation led to drug and weapon seizures in East Baton Rouge and Ascension Parishes—Cameron Wilkinson and Ricky Williams Jr., both 21, face charges involving controlled substances and firearm possession.  WVLA
  • Dr. Byon Jasper of BYAJ Clinic on Burbank, which he has run for over three years, said his patients feel unsafe after repeated raids at a nearby apartment complex — a raid on July 11 led to an arrest for burglary following a March 28 incident — and he has reached out to officials for answers.  WBRZ
  • Baton Rouge police report that 67-year-old Michael Anderson was fatally shot on the porch of a residence on Highland Road just after 7 p.m. Tuesday—41-year-old Eddie Johnson was killed in a shooting at a Bank Street home shortly after 3 a.m. Wednesday with investigations ongoing.  The Advocate

  • Two Iranian LSU doctoral students were released after ICE falsely claimed they reported a hit-and-run at their Baton Rouge apartment in late June—ACLU stated all deportation proceedings were dismissed, letting them return to their studies.  WBRZ

  • Pfizer recalled some Bicillin L-A shots on July 16 due to floating particles that could affect treatment for syphilis in pregnant women—doctors are warned that supplies may run low while no adverse reactions have been reported.  WBRZ
