- ➤ Volunteers are cleaning up Sweet Olive Cemetery, Baton Rouge's oldest Black cemetery built in 1850 that hides over 5,000 graves under weeds. Markeda Cottonham, founder of Friends of Sweet Olive Cemetery in 2020, leads local students in the effort and asks people to donate or adopt a grave—helping save the history of generations of African Americans. - ➤ A contracted cleaning employee Thomas Cassagne, a 27 year old from Baton Rouge, was arrested Thursday in Port Allen for access device fraud and theft—he allegedly stole a school board member's credit card that was later used for multiple transactions. WBRZ
- ➤ BRPD is searching for two people accused of auto thefts along North Harrell's Ferry Road under active investigation. WBRZ
- ➤ On June 22, Baton Rouge police arrested two teenagers—an 18-year-old and a 15-year-old—after a gunfight broke out at the Big Blue House on Choctaw Drive that killed Prenesha Wagner and wounded six others. The Advocate
- ➤ Officers from the Gonzales Police Department and the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office arrested 41-year-old Neo Morris after a July 9 search of his home in Gonzales uncovered a clandestine lab and drugs including 38 grams of heroin, four of meth, four of marijuana and six doses of gabapentin, and he now faces drug charges and fugitive allegations. - ➤ Southern University expelled the Omega Psi Phi chapter Friday after the Division of Student Affairs found the group responsible for the hazing death of Caleb Wilson, a mechanical engineering student who collapsed in a Baton Rouge warehouse — the chapter must now remove all identifying markers from campus. - ➤ A Baton Rouge man was arrested after allegedly stealing a West Baton Rouge School Board credit card from an employee’s desk drawer and using it for several transactions—Thomas Cassagne, 27, who works for a contracted cleaning service, now faces felony access device fraud and misdemeanor theft charges with no bond set.
