EDUCATION NEWS

  • The East Baton Rouge Parish School Board did not approve contracts with Kids Orchestra for $445,000 and BRYC for $786,000, saying the district should do the work itself or let other local groups have a chance. The contracts will be revisited within two months as the board reconvenes on Aug. 21.  The Advocate
  • LSU has narrowed its search to three candidates for the new Student Health Center director after students interviewed the candidates to address concerns over balancing student needs with OLOL’s Catholic service limits.   • Baton Rouge parents face delays in obtaining their children's transcripts after Idea Public Schools closed nearly two months ago—this hinders students from officially transferring to new schools.   • West and Alicia Dixon testified in court about their faulty Youngsville home built by D.R. Horton that had poor ventilation causing water damage and mold—this is part of a lawsuit that may grow into a class action including hundreds of homeowners.
