  • First responders from southeast Louisiana played in a charity basketball game called Ball 4 the Cause at St. Michael the Archangel High School on Saturday. The event featured 3-on-3 tournaments and matches among police and fire departments that raised funds to support local charities and Camp Catahoula.  WBRZ

  • A person died Saturday after a shooting outside a home along Louisiana Highway 405 in Modeste—said the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office.  WBRZ
  • The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office arrested Xin Zhang on charges of pandering, practicing massage therapy without a license, and promoting prostitution at Oriental Relax Spa on Coursey Boulevard after a months-long investigation that began with complaints in December 2024—authorities have issued arrest warrants for several others involved.  WVLA
  • On August 2, Goodwood Hardware on Jefferson Highway hosted a fundraiser featuring a car show, silent auction and live DJ for injured officer Caleb Eisworth, who lost both legs in June after a truck intentionally rammed him and led to charges against Gad Black for attempted first-degree murder.  WBRZ
  • Livingston Parish deputies are searching for 73-year-old Diane Sue Benham—last seen at 7:45 a.m. Aug. 1 in Juban Crossing wearing a gray shirt, tan shorts, and carrying a white bag—because her family said she missed her medication and might need care.  WVLA

  • Baton Rouge ranked eighth among the nation’s most dangerous morning commutes—with a fatal crash rate of 0.489 per 100,000 residents during rush hour, MoneyGeek reported. Memphis led the list with a rate of 0.84 per 100,000 residents.  WVLA

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • More than 63,000 acres of north Louisiana forestland will produce carbon credits over 10 years under an agreement between Arkansas-based NativState and French firm TotalEnergies, which operates locally in Baton Rouge and southwest Louisiana. The deal involves over 280 landowners who will follow long-term sustainable management plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions — a measure that supports growing global demand for carbon offsets despite changes in U.S. climate policy.  The Advocate
