- ➤ Frank Johnson, 41, died after being shot around 6:30 a.m. Sunday on the 3200 block of Byron Avenue in Baton Rouge — police have not yet named a suspect or determined a motive. WVLA
- ➤ A Denham Springs couple was arrested for Medicaid fraud after underreporting their marital status and income to collect over $133,000 in benefits and they were booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison with Sheryl facing a $5,000 bond and Keith a $12,000 bond. WBRZ
- ➤ Ila Marcela Jacobs, 49, daughter of late teacher Loretta Jacobs, was arrested in Florida on July 28—she is accused of fraudulently receiving over $269,000 in retirement benefits intended for her mother from December 2011 to April 2024 and was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. WAFB 9
- ➤ Livingston Parish couple Keith and Sheryl Duncan from Denham Springs were arrested on July 30 for allegedly defrauding Medicaid of over $133,000 by underreporting their income and marital status — Sheryl faces one count with a $5,000 bond while Keith faces three counts with a $12,000 bond as the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation continues probing the case. - ➤ Baton Rouge and nearby areas experienced seven fatal incidents of violence over the weekend—a dispute on Geronimo Street led to a fatal shooting, an ATV parking argument in Ascension Parish turned deadly, a murder-suicide unfolded in Central, additional shootings in East Baton Rouge took two lives, and an attempted murder-suicide in Baker left one dead and another critically injured.
