- ➤ Starting Aug. 18, Baton Rouge passengers can take a bus from the Greyhound station that links to the train at New Orleans’ Union Passenger Terminal for service to Mobile. The buses will depart daily at 5:35 a.m. and 2 p.m. while people can book connecting tickets this week. The Advocate

- ➤ Maressa Mays, 34, died in an East Baton Rouge jail after a judge ordered her detention on July 14—her family said she suffered chest pain and signs of abuse without receiving prompt medical care and is now demanding a full investigation into her death. WBRZ
- ➤ Baton Rouge man Leo Sanfie, 40, was arrested for hit-and-run and DUI on July 20 after he swerved to avoid a turtle and crashed his car into a fence — deputies said his blood alcohol level was 0.14%. WVLA
- ➤ Sergeant Caleb Eisworth died Sunday at a Baton Rouge hospital after being injured in a June crash—when Gad Black deliberately rammed his motorcycle on Greenwell Springs Road—and district attorney Hillar Moore said he will seek the death penalty and upgrade the charge to first-degree murder.
