- ➤ Gad Black (41) had his charges upgraded to first-degree murder after a hit-and-run on June 16 near Prescott Road left BRPD Sgt. Caleb Eisworth fatally injured on August 10 (in Baton Rouge) as District Attorney Hillar Moore announced he will seek the death penalty. WVLA

- ➤ A Baton Rouge woman spent two months in ICE detention at the Richwood facility and was released on recognizance on July 28—nearly two weeks later she said she still feels scared going outside but is happy to be reunited with her family. WVLA
- ➤ The U.S. Supreme Court will revisit Louisiana vs. Callais on Oct. 15 to decide if the state illegally gerrymandered its congressional maps — the maps created a second Black-majority district running from Baton Rouge to Shreveport, with state lawmakers arguing politics drove the design and non-African American voters saying that race was the main factor. - ➤ The 2024 audit of East Baton Rouge Parish spending found that police overtime exceeded its budget by $2.4 million and funds meant for trauma centers were used for the Summer of Hope program—officials said an officer shortage, supply chain issues and lack of competitive bids for vehicle purchases contributed to the overspending and that they are cooperating with investigations.
