- ➤ Livingston Parish and Denham Springs deputies arrested Michael Ardoin (57) on Wednesday after he stole about $300 of meat from Walmart by hiding it in his pants and investigators later found additional meat from Sam's Club in his car. WAFB 9
- ➤ Former LSU coach Dale Brown—urging a court to reexamine the case—said new evidence raised doubts about the trial concerning a convicted killer. WAFB 9
- ➤ Former Prairieville gymnastics coach Sean Gardner, 38, was arrested in Iowa on Aug. 14 for alleged sexual misconduct with young gymnasts+he requested his court proceedings be moved to Mississippi while federal investigators seized electronics on May 28 that contained images and videos indicating child pornography dating back to 2018. - ➤ A man accused of shooting at a worker fixing a leak on Lilac Street was arrested and charged with attempted second-degree murder after Jeremiah Chissell, 39, allegedly fired his rifle causing the worker to fall off the roof and break his arm — a nearby food truck was struck by gunfire. WBRZ
- ➤ A police chase ended in a fiery crash in Baton Rouge on Aug. 20 when a driver refused to stop for traffic violations and threw an illegally modified gun during the pursuit—one person died and two others were critically injured. WVLA
- ➤ A Baton Rouge woman was arrested for choking her wheelchair-bound husband during an argument spurred by family gossip about infidelity—she faces charges of domestic abuse and simple battery after sheriff’s deputies responded around 12:15 a.m. on August 20 at the 11600 block of Saint Peter Avenue following reports of yelling by a witness. - ➤ Today, nearly 50 independent films are screening at the Manship Theatre as part of the inaugural Baton Rouge Underground Film Festival, which runs from Aug. 21 to Aug. 24. The festival features 10 feature films, 39 shorts and seven panels—discussing film tax incentives and hands-on training sessions with industry groups to support local filmmakers. WBRZ
