- ➤ Progress continues on the $10 million, 25,000-square-foot Inspiration Center in Howell Park—set to offer after-school programs, a basketball gym, a recording studio, laundry, and mentorship for children, families, and seniors. Developer Clay Young said he expanded the plan after visiting similar centers in Atlanta and Minnesota and expects affordable services for local residents. WVLA

- ➤ Victoria's Toy Station in Baton Rouge will close later this week after operating for over 40 years at its Government Street location. All merchandise will be marked down 50% until closing—while Modern Munchkin Co. will move into the space and open in October—. WJBO
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Baton Rouge man was convicted of double murder for killing his ex-girlfriend and her boyfriend in their Tigerland apartment on Jan. 23 using a shotgun at point-blank range—lawyers for both sides were held in contempt during the retrial. The Advocate
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A $2.5 million project will add a multi-use path along South Sherwood Forest Boulevard to make travel safer for walkers and cyclists, and new traffic signals will upgrade the busy I-12 exit ramp. City leaders say the improvements will better connect both sides of the road and ease daily commutes. WBRZ
- ➤ Metro Council met on Wednesday to review LSU's new arena project and plans to transform River Center, and city leaders are exploring curfew changes to tackle truancy. Police arrested two people for alleged gang activity and narcotics trafficking, and the mayor’s office said funding programs and coordination with the DA will help curb rising violent crime—efforts designed to improve community safety. - ➤ On August 27, 2025, two more people died after eating Louisiana oysters infected with Vibrio vulnificus at separate restaurants in Louisiana and Florida—state health officials reported a total of six deaths and 34 infections this year. WBRZ
- ➤ Louisiana mom Brittany Lane was admitted to Woman’s Hospital’s Perinatal Mental Health Unit on August 22 for postpartum depression after the pressures of a new baby and past losses worsened her feelings; she now takes part in group therapy—helping her learn that talking about her pain can lead to healing.
