  • Sorority members from Denham Springs, Gonzales, Baton Rouge and Walker donated school supplies to Shenandoah Elementary on September 2nd—supporting 550 students from pre-K to fifth grade with essential materials.  The Advocate

CRIME NEWS

  • A man was killed and his brother injured in a Maringouin shooting—police said a second suspect is now behind bars.  WAFB 9
  • A Baton Rouge man, Alexander Brock, 59, was convicted of distributing cocaine and crack cocaine during a federal trial — the jury reached its verdict in less than an hour — and he now faces five to 40 years in prison, fines up to $5 million, and supervised release.  WVLA
  • A Baton Rouge man, Nugene Eackles, 49, was arrested last Friday for the Aug. 3 fatal shooting of Frank Johnson, 41—video footage shows he called 911 under the alias Teddy Sims nine minutes after pulling the trigger outside a Byron Avenue residence.  The Advocate
  • A suspect was arrested after a shooting on Lorna Ave early Friday when a victim with multiple gunshot wounds was taken to a hospital—Mario Sevilla, 25, faces charges of attempted second-degree murder, aggravated assault with a firearm, and illegal use of weapons.  WAFB 9

ECONOMY NEWS

  • On September 2, 2025, the Baton Rouge Area Chamber announced that our metro area was named a Top 10 U.S. Metro for economic development by Site Selection magazine based on metrics for job creation and capital investment from January 2021 through July 1. BRAC officials said the ranking reflects strong regional growth fueled by recent investments in transportation, education, and public safety—highlighting clear progress.  Baton Rouge Area Chamber

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • An audit by the Louisiana Legislative Auditor’s office on September 1 found that thousands of dollars in equipment was still missing from BREC facilities—stolen items include mowers, edgers, trimmers, and a mower valued at $16,298 from Dumas Memorial Golf Course—and officials said they would review internal controls and pursue prosecution.  WAFB 9

HEALTH NEWS

  • Women's Hospital is running a mobile mammography coach that gave 3D mammograms on Sept 2 and will visit more sites over the next month across the capital region. A physician's order is required and appointments are strongly encouraged at each location.  WBRZ
