- ➤ Baton Rouge police are searching for 25-year-old Anthony James Jelks Jr. who is accused of raping a 4-year-old girl and transmitting chlamydia during an incident that led to treatment at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center (the charge is first-degree rape of a victim younger than 13). - ➤ Yasmeen Blake, a New Orleans native and Southern University alumna, produced and directed a new documentary titled Together in the Eye: 20 Years Later that tells the story of Hurricane Katrina's aftereffects from her own experience. - ➤ Dr. Byron Jasper of Byja Clinic said today that Baton Rouge residents face delays getting the COVID-19 vaccine at local pharmacies because new state rules require a prescription—confusing federal policy changes have made access harder. He urged relying on trusted, peer-reviewed science as officials work to fix the issue. WVLA
- ➤ Our Lady of the Lake Medical Center held blood drives on Thursday in Plaquemine and Baton Rouge for National Blood Donation Day to collect platelets that help stop blood clots and slow bleeding. Lab Manager Jay Thomas said donors with O negative blood were especially needed — the Plaquemine drive ran from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the Baton Rouge drive from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. — and he encouraged everyone to donate soon.
