ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A 3-year-old child was accidentally shot and killed in the 4400 block of Sumrall Drive on Friday, Sept. 5 — authorities are investigating the incident. WVLA
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A former Zachary Fire Department captain, Jonathan Knight, and Tara Bizette were indicted Friday on charges of molesting a juvenile and indecent behavior after being arrested in April. WBRZ
- ➤ In Denham Springs, Livingston Parish deputies arrested a trio on charges of alleged human trafficking after they crossed multiple state lines to transport three undocumented migrants for money, and they were booked into the detention center on three counts each. WBRZ
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ EPA officials are cleaning up contamination from the Smitty’s Supply Inc. fire that began Aug 22 and spilled chemicals into the Tangipahoa River near local neighborhoods — cleanup efforts have collected enough material to fill four Olympic pools and officials have not yet disclosed what is being removed or its effect on wildlife. - ➤ Saturday night in Baton Rouge will see heavy traffic and road closures as LSU and Southern host their openers within thirty minutes of each other—law enforcement is preparing to manage contraflow lanes on major roads and EMS has set up cooling stations at Tiger Stadium to help fans stay safe and hydrated.
