- ➤ YMCA of the Capital Area started its first Baton Rouge housing project, Point at Mid City, near Government Street and South Foster Drive, with CEO Sean Elliott saying it marks a return to the organization’s core focus on affordable housing. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A speeding Corvette rear-ended a Chevrolet Tahoe on Airline Highway near Pond Road in Sorrento Saturday afternoon—the crash caused the Corvette to careen off the highway and hit a tree, killing 59-year-old Jeffery Luquette of St. Amant while the Tahoe driver sustained minor injuries. - ➤ Deputies arrested 25-year-old Nicholas Smith for killing his 79-year-old grandfather—retired Baker Police captain Danny Beck—after a dinner argument at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at his Crystal Drive home. WBRZ
- ➤ Baton Rouge police said a gang planned to kill a woman who witnessed her younger brother's murder to stop her testimony—gang member Henderson ordered his peers to find her and offered a $10,000 bounty to silence her as court records show. The Advocate
- ➤ On Aug. 24, 19-year-old D'Anthony Brown was shot and killed on his mother's front porch, and nine days later, Carvettea Selders received an eviction notice citing 'unlawful activities causing police action on the property'—forcing her family to leave by Sept. 30 and leaving them feeling unsafe. - ➤ The LSU Museum of Art in Baton Rouge presents 'A Bayou State of Mind,' an exhibit curated by Michelle Schulte that displays over 100 art pieces by 33 local and national artists across Urban Experience, Water, and Rural Memory.
