- ➤ Hundreds gathered at Tiger Stadium on September 11 to honor first responders during LSU ROTC’s annual stair climb. The event (marking the 24th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks) remembered the 412 first responders who died at Ground Zero. WBRZ
- ➤ Dexter Jackson became the new executive director of the Mid City Redevelopment Alliance last month and he plans to rebuild trust by boosting outreach and forming new partnerships — efforts aimed at advancing homeownership and financial stability in the area. The Advocate

- ➤ Yesterday, the USS Kidd Museum held its annual Roarin’ on the River Gala at White Oak Estate and Gardens to raise funds for much-needed repairs—Air Force veteran Ronald Toups received the Patriot Award and the museum plans to welcome the Kidd back at the start of 2026. WBRZ
- ➤ Today, Baton Rouge residents can enjoy multiple events including a speakeasy comedy show at The Tunnel starting at 5:15 p.m., a meet-and-greet with LSU legend Leonard Fournette at The Queen from 7:30 to 9 p.m., a Jeff Buckley documentary at Manship Theatre at 7:30 p.m., and a Black art gala at Main Library from 7 to 10 p.m.—the A Taste of Deep South Festival on Saturday and Sunday runs from noon to 8 p.m. at Goodwood with live music, contests, and food. 225 Magazine

- ➤ Louisiana’s shrimp industry is struggling as NOAA data shows wild-caught shrimp revenue fell 38% from $329 million in 2022 to $204 million in 2023—imported shrimp reducing prices. Local fishermen report that hurricanes and lower shrimp prices are hurting jobs while lawmakers work on new labeling laws to protect coastal communities. WVLA

- ➤ A Baton Rouge judge upheld the new voting subdistrict lines for the special election set for Oct. 11—rejecting a lawsuit by Chief Judge Donald Johnson and other candidates who argued that the change was made too close to the election and could confuse voters. Plaintiffs plan to appeal the ruling as they claim the revised map has increased campaign costs. The Advocate
