- ➤ Romney Manuel—51—a former Louisiana education worker from Prairieville pleaded guilty to a wire fraud scheme that stole $74,250 in LaCAP funds by faking a childcare provider from April 2020 to March 2021. He now faces up to 30 years in prison and a $1 million fine. WVLA

- ➤ A new Climate Central study found that Baton Rouge now gets 21 extra days of summer heat compared to the early 1970s—placing it among the top 15 U.S. cities with longer summers. Other Louisiana cities like Lafayette, Shreveport, and Lake Charles have also seen marked increases in summer days. The Advocate
- ➤ On Thursday, crews from the Pine Grove Fire Department and Livingston Parish Fire Protection District battled a large grass fire on La. 16 that spread quickly due to dry conditions and piles of dead tree trunks—no injuries were reported and property damage was minor, though officials warned residents to expect smoke and a visible glow for days. - ➤ City leaders held a ribbon‑cutting ceremony Friday to complete the MOVE BR sidewalk project that gives residents on Perkins Road a safer way to walk from their street to Acadian Thruway—The project cost $450,000 and is part of ongoing efforts to improve safety in Baton Rouge. WBRZ
- ➤ Gov. Jeff Landry and state fisheries criticized the federal decision to end the commercial amberjack season on September 2. The governor said the recreational season will stay open through October 31—fueling a dispute over management data between state and federal agencies. The Advocate
- ➤ The West Feliciana Parish Council will hold a special meeting on Sept. 18 at 5 p.m. in the Courthouse Annex to hear recommendations from the Louisiana Rural Water Association for new sewer customer charges on three rural systems serving Solitude and Turner, Hardwood, and Independence areas. Parish President Kenny Havard and Finance Director Danyell Vice said the current $38 monthly rate has larger system users subsidizing smaller ones — the study will propose rates to fully cover operating costs and begin building fund balances for future improvements.
