  • Dutchtown High is holding its homecoming Spirit Week from Sept. 15 to Sept. 19 with activities themed 'Griffins Rolling Down the Bayou'—a parade will start on Sept. 19 at 6 p.m. before the football game at 7 p.m., and festivities will wrap up on Sept. 20 with a dance and the crowning of the Homecoming king.  The Advocate
  • After the Smitty’s Supply explosion left hundreds of workers without jobs, local organizer Jasmine Sullivan raised over $10,000 by selling 600 plates of jambalaya and pastalaya in front of Brandon’s Trailer Sales in Amite — funds that will support affected employees.  WBRZ

  • Visit Baton Rouge is launching College Town Passports to help locals explore the city—residents download the passport for GPS check-ins at places like Dearman’s Diner, the Mall of Louisiana, and university areas; the program offers rewards but no free admissions or discounts at participating businesses.  WVLA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • LSU’s new counselor for the Tiger Marching Band and the College of Music and Dramatic Arts starts this month — the role is permanent and aims to reduce wait times for mental health support for students with heavy schedules.   • LSU announced a new lecture series called 'Let Freedom Ring' in honor of Charlie Kirk, who was fatally shot while on tour, and the program will feature speakers with diverse viewpoints to promote free speech and civil dialogue. The initiative requires an initial investment of $50,000—$100,000 with $50,000 needed each year, and authorities reported that the suspect in Kirk’s killing is in custody.  LSU Reveille

  • LSU defeated Florida 20-10 at Tiger Stadium—five interceptions by Florida quarterback DJ Lagway shifted the game after an early ejection and offensive struggles weakened the Gators.  WBRZ
  • An LSU fan with autism went viral after his aunt posted a request on Facebook for a date to join him at an LSU game— his post garnered over 2,000 likes and 3,500 shares. He said he already had plans to secure dates for each game while his family celebrated with a 15-pound gator at a tailgate.  WBRZ
  • A famous streamer IShowSpeed visited LSU’s campus and toured the football facilities as part of the Tigers’ preparations for their game against Florida. His visit brought excitement to local fans—showing the growing link between social media and college sports.  WBRZ
  • The Southern football team finished its non-conference schedule on Saturday night by playing Fresno State in its first meeting with the Bulldogs. Head coach Terrence Graves announced Fred McNair would serve as co-offensive coordinator for the first game—while the Jaguars entered with a 1—2 record.  WBRZ
