- ➤ Early Monday morning fire in a Brusly home on West Main Street left a family of four displaced and the house a total loss—fire officials said the blaze started in the garage and they are still searching for the family pet. WBRZ

- ➤ The LSU Museum of Art's newest exhibition, 'A Bayou State of Mind,' opened September 4 and shows over 120 works by local and international artists that capture Louisiana's spirit—featuring works by Malaika Favorite, John T. Scott, and George Rodrigue. The exhibition held its Free Fall Reception on September 11 from 6 to 8 p.m. and runs through January 4. 225 Magazine

- ➤ Farmers in Iberville Parish began harvesting sugarcane Monday after early snowfall produced an unusual growing season and dry weather helped them catch up on planting delays (with only 12 loads harvested initially) while they plan to finish the harvest by January (as some may burn fields to avoid a 3-5 ton decline per acre). ENVIRONMENT NEWS

GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries announced Monday the opening dates for the 2025–2026 deer hunting season. Archery hunters will begin on Saturday, September 20 in Deer Areas 3, 7, 8, and 10 (covering mainly southwest regions) while other areas will open on October 1 and hunters must have proper licenses and tags. - ➤ The Tiger Bend Road bridge closed yesterday and will remain closed until Feb. 15 as the East Baton Rouge City-Parish Department of Transportation works on repairs. It is located 0.9 miles west of Old Scenic Highway, and drivers are advised to use alternate routes via Samuels Road, Mt. Pleasant-Zachary Road and Old Scenic Highway. WBRZ

- ➤ Judge elections for the 19th Judicial Court District will use a new map for the October election, as Representative Barbara Freiberg sponsored House Bill 124 that Gov. Landry signed in June. The revised map divides the district into two sections—one with 72 percent black voters and one with 72 percent white voters—to ensure fair representation. WBRZ

- ➤ LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier visited Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital yesterday morning to sign autographs, pose for photos, and hand out LSU-themed headphones — a gift supported by the hospital and the Tigers football team — that brought hope to young patients. WVLA
