- ➤ Firefighters from Zachary and neighboring areas put out a large grass fire Thursday afternoon in a field near Cordoba Drive - Old Scenic Highway as extra teams responded to the dry weather and controlled the blaze by 4:30 p.m. with no injuries reported. WBRZ

- ➤ Officials in Zachary announced that Aldi will open a store on Oct. 9 in the former Winn-Dixie building on Church Street after buying Southeastern Grocers—residents have had few grocery options since Winn-Dixie closed last November. WBRZ
- ➤ ALDI will open its new Zachary store at 5005 Church Street on Oct. 9; the discount grocer now in the former Winn-Dixie building will operate 26 locations statewide and plans to open new stores in Denham Springs and Gonzales early next year—adding to its growing presence. - ➤ Baton Rouge public school employees will soon receive two checks—teachers will get $4,000 and support staff $2,000, with state-funded checks paid on Oct. 28 and district-funded checks on Nov. 17. This one-time stipend comes for the third consecutive year as the state delays permanent raises, providing cash before the Thanksgiving break. The Advocate
- ➤ Kalayna Walker, an LSU student who lost her hair due to alopecia, started a mentorship program to help young girls embrace their true selves.
