COMMUNITY NEWS

  • LSU and Southeastern recovery programs hosted a sober tailgate near the parade grounds on Saturday for fans of the in-state matchup — offering snacks, corn hole, and boxes of Narcan in a safe space without alcohol. The event brought together locals in recovery to connect and support each other.  WBRZ
  • On Saturday, Sept 20, nonprofit LaShift — in partnership with Community Connection — gave away free $15 plate lunches at Ever-Increasing Life Ministries, serving 500 people and raising about $7,500 for the community.  WBRZ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • East Baton Rouge Parish School Board delayed updates to charter school rules during the charter application period from Sept. 8 to Oct. 20 after a board motion at the Sept. 18 meeting failed with equal votes—members remain divided over changes that would extend renewal periods for top schools. Baton Rouge Alliance for Students said the board is letting politics override a focus on students.  The Advocate

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Fire officials say that hot, dry weather has led to burn bans in Tangipahoa and St. Helena parishes and that crews have fought 20 grass fires this month, including six in the Pine Grove district—most started by sparks from yard work. Pine Grove Fire Chief Kenneth Smith said the wind helped the fires spread quickly and urged residents to avoid outdoor burning.  WBRZ

  • Voters in Baton Rouge are urged to register online by Saturday, October 11 for the upcoming primary election — officials warn that time is running short.  WAFB 9

SPORTS NEWS

  • LSU has a 3-0 record and top SEC ranking — but the team now faces a grueling stretch of future games, including an away contest at Ole Miss, a challenging match with South Carolina, a tough defensive battle at Vanderbilt, and a rivalry game against Alabama in Tuscaloosa. The Tigers must bolster their offense and rely on a strong defense if they want to keep their playoff hopes alive.  LSU Reveille
  • LSU football played on Sept 20 and won 56—10 over Southeastern as running back Ju’Juan Johnson scored two touchdowns and the offense set a season-high in points. Quarterback Nussmeier and backup Van Buren combined for 530 yards while the Tigers now prepare to play Ole Miss next Saturday.  LSU Reveille
  • LSU Athletics’ creative team, The Brand, helps student-athletes build their brands and gain endorsement deals inside Tiger Stadium. The unit boosts stars like Angel Reese and puts LSU on the national stage with billboards—live productions that focus on NIL.  LSU Reveille
  • After beating Southeastern 56-10 on Saturday, the LSU Tigers showed strong progress as coach Brian Kelly said the offense improved (DJ Chester was ejected for targeting) and the team moved to 4-0.   • LSU defeated Florida 20-10 at Tiger Stadium as its secondary recorded five interceptions with key plays from Dashawn Spears and freshman DJ Pickett. The win improved LSU’s record to 3-0—fans now expect a strong performance in the upcoming home game.  LSU Reveille
