- ➤ East Baton Rouge Parish School Board delayed updates to charter school rules during the charter application period from Sept. 8 to Oct. 20 after a board motion at the Sept. 18 meeting failed with equal votes—members remain divided over changes that would extend renewal periods for top schools. - ➤ Fire officials say that hot, dry weather has led to burn bans in Tangipahoa and St. Helena parishes and that crews have fought 20 grass fires this month, including six in the Pine Grove district—most started by sparks from yard work. Pine Grove Fire Chief Kenneth Smith said the wind helped the fires spread quickly and urged residents to avoid outdoor burning. WBRZ
