- ➤ Local chef Ciara Finley is relocating her catering business Desiderata Kitchen from Denham Springs to a new space on Third Street in downtown Baton Rouge to be closer to her client base and corporate contracts. The new site, located between Cecelia Creole Bistro and The Little Village, is set for an Oct 1 soft opening and will serve as a café by day — and an event venue by night with lunch service starting in November. 225 Magazine

- ➤ The Southeastern Rodeo Association will bring its touring rodeo to West Baton Rouge Parish this weekend at Port Allen’s Louis Mouch Jr. Multi-Purpose Facility—doors will open at 6 p.m. and the event will start at 7:30 p.m. CEO Walter Hull said he will produce the event with 9-year-old Kinsley Decur as a birthday gift. - ➤ Laurey Jones-Jones, project director of the Baton Rouge Alliance for Students, said the group collected feedback from nine schools as part of its Youth Voice Initiative to shape local education policy. The report shows that nearly half the students need mental health support and that North Baton Rouge students want equal access to good education, a trend that will guide future policy decisions. - ➤ Livingston Parish will use a $174,509 Healthy Communities grant to enhance its waste management efforts by implementing a weekly litter abatement schedule with the Department of Public Works—this project also plans a Tire Recycle Day and a Household Hazard Waste Disposal Day to reduce litter and educate residents. - ➤ Safety experts say that many parents install car seats incorrectly, putting young children at risk. The Louisiana Passenger Safety Task Force will host National Seat Check Saturday to inspect and fix car seats—helping reduce injury risks. WVLA
- ➤ The Ward Two Water District has issued a boil water advisory for residents on Highway 16 from Gourdon Lane to Waterson Street in Port Vincent—repairs on a water main have lowered water pressure below the minimum set by the Louisiana Department of Health, and residents are told to boil water for one minute in a clean container. - ➤ A new study by the Urban Institute reports nearly 150,000 Louisiana residents who buy marketplace health insurance will see their premiums more than double next year if Congress does not extend key subsidies.
