- ➤ East Baton Rouge Parish EMS will host several training courses to help residents learn public safety skills and work with local first responders—these programs will boost community preparedness. WAFB 9
- ➤ The Sons and Daughters of the American Revolution and local groups will commemorate the 246th anniversary of the Battle of Baton Rouge on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 8 a.m. at Galvez Plaza downtown — the free event will honor the 1779 battle that helped shape the fight for independence. WBRZ

- ➤ Barnes and Noble in Baton Rouge will reopen its store at Town Center in Cedar Lodge on Oct. 1 at 9 a.m. after closing its Corporate Boulevard location on Sept. 12 and will feature a ribbon-cutting as well as a book signing by local author Rachel Schneider —Metal Slinger— nearly two weeks before its release. - ➤ Louisiana Right on Crime held a forum on Tuesday, Sept. 23 to show local businesses how to hire formerly incarcerated people & explain its benefits. WAFB 9

- ➤ The LSU Museum of Art is holding an exhibit called A Bayou State of Mind that features Happy Land/Feliciana — a silkscreen on paper by Janice Sachse created in 1971. The exhibit includes 40 paintings by George Rodrigue and works by other artists — highlighting Louisiana’s culture and traditions. The Advocate

- ➤ An appellate panel from the First Circuit Court of Appeal overturned a judge’s pause on the planned state takeover of two failing Baker schools—Baker Middle and Baker Heights Elementary—giving state education leaders more control. Education officials said no immediate changes will be made since the takeover will restart after the current school year ends. The Advocate

- ➤ Louisiana-based nonprofit Glassroots is turning empty wine bottles into sand for coastal restoration at the Red Stick Farmers Market—donors must remove lids and rinse containers. The program, which started in February 2024, now runs twice a month from 8 a.m. to noon and has kept 27,213 pounds of glass out of landfills. 225 Magazine

- ➤ Louisiana is one of nine states that plan to swap voter rolls with Texas to help stop duplicate registrations. Texas and Louisiana officials say the agreement will create a secure process for comparing records (some critics worry about possible database errors). WVLA
