  • Pet Supplies Plus on Millerville Road hosted a pet adoption event on Friday from 6-8 p.m.—attendees looked for their furever friend.  WAFB 9

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Baton Rouge firefighters controlled a vacant home blaze on St. Gerard Avenue in the Brookstown area on September 26—taking 13 minutes to contain the fire and estimating damage at $500 while investigators looked into its cause, with no injuries reported.  WBRZ

BUSINESS NEWS

  • City Slice Pints + Pizza reopened in an upgraded location on Nicholson Drive near LSU's North Gates after its six-year run on Chimes Street closed, and GM Matt Dispenza said the new spot offers expanded parking and dining along with a fresh menu featuring brick oven pizzas and new wing sauces. The restaurant will reach full capacity in October and host weekend college football games on its 20 TVs—drawing local fans with adjusted drink prices.  225 Magazine

CULTURE NEWS

  • Southern University Ag Center is hosting the third annual Calf Roping on the Bluff event on Sept. 28 at Maurice A. Edmond Arena along Scenic Highway. The event starts at 10 a.m. and features various calf roping styles — vendors will also be on hand with tickets costing $10 for adults and $5 for kids.  WBRZ
  • Knock Knock Children's Museum is hosting Storybook Soiree for families with interactive storytimes and activities + Christina Melton said the museum is set to open its doors and inspire a love of reading.  WAFB 9

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A ceremony will be held Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at 2040 S. Acadian Thruway to celebrate the $34.4 million expansion of the Baton Rouge Center for Visual and Performing Arts. The 80,000-square-foot facility—completed this summer—now serves over 600 students with a state-of-the-art black box theater, expanded arts facilities and modern classrooms.  WVLA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mayor Dustin Yates of St. George plans to build new sports and event spaces for family gatherings and tournaments — his plan is meant to boost local recreation and create more opportunities for residents in East Baton Rouge Parish.  WVLA
  • East Baton Rouge Parish voters begin early voting Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. for the Oct. 11 election, where they will choose new judges for City Court and the 19th Judicial District Court and vote on three funding propositions for neighborhood fees — including tax renewals for Downtown Development and crime prevention — while Ascension and Livingston parishes hold separate local votes.  The Advocate

  • LSU offers nutritional counseling at the Student Health Center on Infirmary Lane to help students meet health goals and manage dietary challenges—registered dietitian Emily Caire said each plan is tailored to a student’s individual needs, and students are encouraged to use the LSU Food Pantry for additional support on weekdays.  LSU Reveille
  • Organizers will host Serve for St. Jude Pickleball Social on Oct. 4 at Court to Table on Burbank Drive from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.—the fundraiser supports cancer research and treatment at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, with Assurance Financial sponsoring the event.  WBRZ
  • BATON ROUGE residents should prepare for a moderate flu season expected to start in October and peak between December and February; health officials advise everyone six months and older to get the trivalent flu shot as soon as it is available—Dr. Sarah Nosal from the American Academy of Family Physicians said vaccination can help reduce severe illness and hospitalizations.  WBRZ
