- ➤ Residents from the Valley Park community are helping a neighbor and her six children leave a condemned home with a rotting foundation and a collapsing porch that put them at risk. Community leaders Corine Thomas and James Joseph said they will work to secure safe emergency housing for the family. WBRZ
- ➤ At Federales Fest in Baton Rouge, a market run entirely by children showcased creative business ideas—kids sold holiday treats, art, and handmade soaps to eager shoppers. Young entrepreneurs like Harper and Holly prepared for the holiday season with big dreams and innovative products. WBRZ
- ➤ On Sept. 23, Jennifer Richardson, founder of Keep Tiger Town Beautiful, received the first-ever key to St. George for her nonprofit's work in cleaning up the area — the award honors her team's efforts that have filled 37,000 trash bags and set up 157 roadside cans with donated vehicles and volunteer help. Richardson said the surprise came when Mayor Dustin Yates called her to a council meeting for a special presentation. WBRZ

- ➤ Several South Louisiana companies announced personnel changes this week—BASF promoted Andy Gutacker to senior vice president and general manager at its Geismar site, JD Bank hired Martin Holifield as a mortgage loan originator for its new Baton Rouge branch, LSU Law named Bill Corbett and Del Wright Jr. as endowed professors, 3131 Media named Giovanna Savorgnan as vice president of sales, and LSU Health Foundation New Orleans promoted Alejandra Guzman to chief operating officer. - ➤ The Walls Project celebrated Baton Rouge culture at Fall Fest BR 2025 at BREC Howell Park on Saturday morning where families learned about art, agriculture, and wellness from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.—activities included rock painting, recycled material sculptures, pottery, and planting strawberries—local vendors provided produce and health screenings. - ➤ The Perkins Rowe Arts Festival took place Saturday, October 04 as local residents enjoyed art, music, and paint demos. Dozens of vendors offered crafts and jewelry to encourage shopping and support local artists. WBRZ

- ➤ Trailblazing LSU grad Sharon Pol broke the record for earning the most degrees from LSU — her Walden home off Kenilworth now displays a shrine honoring everything about the LSU Tigers. WAFB 9
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ BREC’s Green Force volunteer program clocked over 1,500 hours last year—helping maintain trails, fishing ponds, and gardens in community parks and conservation lands. The group will host a Catfish Rodeo on Oct. 18 and a Privet Pull-ooza on Nov. 22—an event to remove invasive privet from Bayou Manchac Park. LSU Reveille

- ➤ East Baton Rouge Parish installed new, brighter LED bulbs in 407 Scotlandville street lights in September as part of a plan to upgrade energy-efficient lighting—additional updates have been made on Plank Road, Sherwood Forest, Goodwood Boulevard and Broadmoor with more coming soon. - ➤ LSU’s On Geaux Run Club and Omega Psi Phi hosted a breast cancer awareness run at the UREC on Saturday. Participants ran a three mile course and donated $1 each to Breast Cancer Now—supporting research for those affected by the disease. LSU Reveille

- ➤ Baton Rouge will host the American Darting National Championship at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on Constitution Ave from July 29 through Aug. 2, 2026—500 competitors and families are expected to arrive. Officials said the event will bring an estimated one million dollar boost to local businesses. WVLA
- ➤ Southeastern beat McNeese 38 to 0 with all points scored in the first half—Carson Camp threw for 173 yards with two touchdowns while Kyle Lowe threw for 94 yards with one touchdown. Coach Frank Scelfo said the two-quarterback system worked well as the Lions now stand at a 2 to 0 conference record and will host Northwestern State on October 18. WBRZ
- ➤ High school football teams in the Capital Region started Week 5 on Oct. 2 and Oct. 3 with varied scores—teams like Lafayette Christian and Madison Prep scored as high as 55 while others such as Baker and White Castle did not score. WAFB 9
