COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The 38th annual Pat's Coats for Kids campaign kicks off today with retired meteorologist Pat Shingleton leading a drive that has raised funds for more than 300,000 coats distributed to 135 schools—over 11,000 coat requests have been made this season for children in need in Baton Rouge.  WBRZ
  • On October 18, 2025, shoppers, merchants and vendors met in Mid-City for the Ogden Park Prowl—an event returning after a break since 2019—and braved a sudden downpour.  The Advocate
  • Today, Baton Rouge hosts a 200th anniversary event at St Joseph Catholic Cemetery from 2 to 4 p.m. at 1523 Main St and a Jeeping for a Cause show at Greenoaks Memorial Park starting at 11 a.m., where Jeep enthusiasts honor the LA Patriot Guard Riders with live music, games, food and a pumpkin patch. Upcoming events include Ghost Stories in the Galleries at LSU Museum of Art on Oct. 28, a spiritual retreat with Deacon Charles deGravelles on Nov. 1 at Episcopal Church of the Nativity in Rosedale and the LSU Law Veterans Day 5K on Nov. 8 at the LSU Golf Course with registration priced at $40 for the public and $25 for military members and students.  The Advocate
  • A Jeep show honored fallen heroes on Sunday at Greenoaks Memorial Park—raising funds for the Blue Star Mothers of Louisiana Chapter 1 and its Wreaths Across America program. Community leaders, jeep enthusiasts and veterans' organizations gathered for live music, food and games while Jeep competitions, a 21-gun salute and a pumpkin patch marked the tribute.  WBRZ

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge will launch Fest For All on Oct. 26 at the Shaw Center for the Arts Plaza from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. with free admission—featuring a Kids Zone, live music by Big Sam's Funky Nation, Chris Leblanc, and Baton Rouge Music Studios, plus booths from 40 local artists to mark the Shaw Center's 20th anniversary.  The Advocate

EDUCATION NEWS

  • EBR Schools Superintendent LaMont Cole said he kept Woodlawn High in the upgrade plans to support current students even as debates over a potential new St. George school district continued. The school board approved a $40 million bond sale to fund improvements on athletic turf, lighting systems, and other facilities with final project decisions set for Nov. 20—ensuring current students receive needed updates.  The Advocate

  • Longtime nurse Lorretta Duplantis shared her story on WBRZ after surviving breast cancer twice, crediting doctors at Baton Rouge General for their care—she urges women to keep up with mammograms.  WBRZ

  • LSU football dropped ten spots in the AP Top 25 Poll after a loss to Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tenn — the result may affect the team’s standing as they prepare for their next game.  WBRZ
  • The AP Top 25 was overhauled after nine ranked teams lost over the weekend — LSU fell to No. 25 after a 31—24 loss to Vanderbilt on Saturday. Ohio State stayed at No. 1 while Indiana, Texas A&M, and others moved up as LSU faced setbacks on the road before its next game at Texas A&M.  WVLA
  • The New Orleans Saints lost 26-14 in Chicago after quarterback Spencer Rattler threw four turnovers that ended their momentum+ they will host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, October 26 at 3:00 p.m. at the Superdome.  WBRZ
