COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Rebuilding Together Baton Rouge has given free home repairs to seniors, veterans and people with disabilities for over 20 years. In 2024 the group repaired 147 homes—completing 1,193 repairs and meeting 257 social service needs—and Executive Director Kristopher Lewis visited 2une Tuesday to share its 2025 plans.  WBRZ
  • St. Vincent de Paul in Baton Rouge is hosting a drive-thru donation drive to support families facing SNAP uncertainty amid the government shutdown — the event will take place on November 8 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at 1628 Florida Street. Monetary donations can also be sent to support its Food Service Program that serves thousands of meals each month.  WVLA
  • The Justice and Accountability Center of Louisiana will host its first Baton Rouge Expungement Clinic at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8 at Baton Rouge Community College’s Acadian Campus, offering free legal assistance to help residents clear old criminal records for jobs, housing, and education opportunities — attorneys and other volunteers are encouraged to join the event.  WVLA
  • Baton Rouge is gearing up for major changes as leaders plan projects such as a $400 million LSU Arena, updated transit systems, and renewed historic venues to boost local culture and the economy. City officials have also set plans for safer pedestrian pathways, new downtown housing, and a carbon capture facility — with many projects continuing through 2026 and beyond.  225 Magazine

CULTURE NEWS

  • Mid City Civic Theatre (MCCT) took over Theatre Baton Rouge’s nonprofit charter after the theater closed in March due to pandemic financial issues—now using its Florida Boulevard venue to host volunteer-driven shows and youth programs after the new year. The group will stage its first ticketed production next summer and hold a fundraiser on Dec. 18 to help pay down existing debt—an effort that has raised hope for local arts enthusiasts.  225 Magazine
  • Rapper Young Bleed, a pioneer in Baton Rouge hip-hop and a No Limit Records artist, died Saturday at 51 from brain aneurysm complications—his family confirmed his death on Instagram.  WAFB 9

EDUCATION NEWS

  • LSU’s Board of Supervisors named a new university president on Tuesday morning after narrowing the choice to three candidates—Robert Robbins, James T. Dalton, and Wade Rousse—during a 9 a.m. meeting in Baton Rouge; the new leader will guide the university's upcoming decisions on athletic appointments following interim President Matt Lee’s tenure. A news conference was held 90 minutes later at the LSU Foundation building.  WBRZ

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority hosted its third Community Coastal Day on Sunday at the LSU Center for River Studies to explain the severe coastal land loss since the 1930s and share restoration efforts (the event included a 10,000-square-foot Mississippi River Delta model and booths from statewide organizations).  LSU Reveille

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Baton Rouge Fire Department earned a class-one rating from the Property Insurance Association of Louisiana for the 45th year, scoring 95 out of 100. Fire Chief Michael Kimble said city departments aided with backup power and water supply so that the department can keep its top marks—support that is key for public safety.  WVLA
  • LSU President Wade Rousse said his transition team, led by trusted adviser Jason French, will begin work today to move LSU toward his tenure. He stated his start date in Baton Rouge is undetermined and that he and Chancellor Jim Dalton will deliver a detailed restructuring plan in 30 days — one that focuses on efficiency in leadership roles.  LSU Reveille
