- ➤ A nonprofit animal shelter in Kentwood faces closure as falling donations have left its monthly $9,000 costs unmet for over 40 cats and dogs. Run by Krista Keller and the only rescue in St. Helena Parish, the shelter urgently needs community support—recent fundraisers and volunteer efforts have significantly dwindled. WBRZ
- ➤ At Southern University in Baton Rouge, the Beta Alpha Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. will celebrate Founders Day on Wednesday by presenting a gift basket to the first child born on November 12 and a laboring basket to its mother as part of its Project Cradle initiative—designed to boost maternal and newborn health through resources and education; the chapter is also accepting community donations of diapers, wipes, and burping cloths to support the effort. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Audubon Schools and Third Future Schools applied to be overseen by the state education board—rather than by East Baton Rouge Parish—when their current deals end in June. They took over two F-rated schools from IDEA Public Schools and partnered with New Schools for Baton Rouge to fund and manage the campuses. The Advocate
- ➤ Belaire High School's ProStart Culinary Program will host a mock trial and recruitment event on Friday. The event will give students a chance to learn catering skills and prepare for the Louisiana State Cooking Competition in March. WBRZ
- ➤ The Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University Physician Assistant Program received Accreditation-Continued status from ARC-PA after a detailed review that included an on-site evaluation—its accreditation will remain valid until it is reviewed again in October. The program admits up to 30 students each year and meets national quality standards for healthcare education. WVLA

- ➤ Today, Louisiana honors the Marine Corps' 250th birthday with a cake-cutting ceremony at 11 a.m. at the State Capitol, hosted by the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs and the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation—an event that also includes a presentation of colors and musical tributes to honor the service of the Marines. - ➤ Veterans Day events took place in Gonzales on November 9 — a parade traveled along key streets — and will be held tomorrow in Zachary, Ascension Parish and Iberville with flag-raising ceremonies, parades and speeches planned to honor veterans. WAFB 9

- ➤ Cypress at Ardendale began its senior housing phase last month with a new 70-unit building funded by a $25 million deal and will start leasing next year—part of a decade-long development that already opened 170 family housing units and plans more phases to integrate seniors with families. - ➤ LSU women’s basketball showed strong offense on Sunday as they scored 67 first-half points to beat Georgia Southern 118-70 in Statesboro. Flau'Jae Johnson led with 19 points along with six assists and four rebounds— the No. 5 Tigers remain 3-0 and will host Charlotte Wednesday at the Maravich Center. WBRZ
- ➤ The LHSAA released playoff brackets for high school football and Baton Rouge teams began their road to the Superdome — the brackets span divisions I through IV with several teams receiving byes. WBRZ
- ➤ The New Orleans Saints defeated the Carolina Panthers 17—7 in Charlotte on Sunday as rookie quarterback Tyler Shough threw two touchdowns and the defense held Carolina to 175 yards with two turnovers. Chris Olave and Juwan Johnson each caught a touchdown pass, and Shough became the first Saints rookie quarterback to win a game since 1981. WBRZ
