- ➤ The Baby Closet at Jewel Newman Community Center in Baton Rouge helps over 100 families by providing baby formula, diapers, and other supplies on the first and third Fridays each month from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.—families must apply at 2013 Central Road to receive items based on having a child rather than income. - ➤ WAFB and Joubert Law Firm hosted a flag giveaway on Tuesday to honor veterans—distributing 3'x5' American Flags that celebrated the American spirit. WAFB 9
- ➤ Iberville Parish celebrated Veterans Day (Nov. 11) as local officials honored veterans and dedicated the ceremony to a fallen deputy. WAFB 9

- ➤ On Veterans Day, WBRZ reporter John Pastorek visited the West Baton Rouge Museum to cover the exhibit 'An American War in Vietnam'—he spoke with curator Lauren Davis about honoring veterans, and the exhibit runs through Dec. 30. WBRZ
- ➤ The Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra will perform a program showcasing Native American culture on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the River Center Theatre—Maestro Adam Johnson leads the orchestra with works including Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9 and a traditional piece retold by principal bassoonist Darrel Hale. - ➤ Albany Middle School learned of Snapchat comments about campus safety on Nov. 9 and officials, along with LPSO, investigated the issue—finding no genuine threat. School leaders sent a text on Nov. 10 urging parents to talk with their children about reporting concerns responsibly and noted an unrelated carpool medical issue. WVLA
- ➤ River Parishes Community College named Sarina Lirette as vice president of the Louisiana Association for Public, Community and Adult Education—she will help promote statewide collaboration on adult education and professional development. With eight years of experience, she expanded access to literacy, high school equivalency and workforce preparation programs in the River Parishes region. The Advocate
- ➤ Southeastern Giving Day ended with over 2,300 donors raising more than $508,000—a 26% increase from last year—at Southeastern Louisiana University. The online event supported donations by adding cryptocurrency options with help from local technology partners. The Advocate

- ➤ Residents in Louisiana saw a rare display of the Aurora Borealis on Tuesday night as a severe G4 geomagnetic storm from the Sun lit up the northern horizon with red and pink hues. Officials were alerted to potential issues (like power outages) and navigation problems (including GPS degradation). WBRZ
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ West Baton Rouge Parish residents will vote on two tax propositions on Nov. 15 that propose a 12—mill property tax in School District No. 3 to raise $9.4 million a year for 10 years to improve salaries for teachers and school employees. Early voting is set from Nov. 1 to Nov. 8 and polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on election day. WVLA

- ➤ The Holden Rockets girls basketball team won 65-39 at home against Phoenix last week as Blaize Foster scored 19 points and Maggie Hughes led with 20 — the team built a 17-point lead by halftime and forced 33 turnovers, setting the stage for a deep playoff run. The Advocate
- ➤ Paul Dietzel, the retired LSU coach and athletic director, painted a famous purple and gold tribute called 'The Way We Were' that honored his team led by All-American Billy Cannon and showcased his innovative three-platoon system with the Chinese Bandits.
