COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Two Baton Rouge groups will host the largest holiday Crimson Market at Southern University's campus on Saturday, Nov. 22 at F.G. Clark Activity Center. The event will feature 50 local vendors, food trucks, door prizes and empowerment workshops—supporting minority-owned businesses and boosting community financial literacy.  WVLA
  • The Louisiana Black Advocates for Life will host a free event — the Black Life Youth Intensive — at Lighthouse Church on Nicholson Drive on Nov. 15 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., where youth and young adults will join interactive sessions to learn about community challenges and have a chance to win one of three $100 cash prizes.  WVLA

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • After two girls were injured on November 2 when a Ferris wheel bucket dumped them during the Harvest Festival, State Fire Marshal Bryan Adams said the ride—inspected by Crescent City Amusements on October 24—is unsafe and his office will work to change the law in January.  WAFB 9

  • Fleur de Lis Pizza (a local restaurant) is offering a $1,500 reward for the return of a missing vintage Jax Beer sign that was once hung outside its building.  WVLA

  • 225 Magazine marked its 20th anniversary as past and present editors, writers, and photographers recalled its November 2005 launch amid Hurricane Katrina challenges and its role in capturing Baton Rouge culture and local business growth.  225 Magazine

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Incoming LSU President Wade Rousse will resign from McNeese State today and will begin leading LSU on Nov 17 — he will share duties with Chancellor James Dalton, who will manage academics and research on campus. The appointments follow a nationwide search and were confirmed unanimously by LSU’s Board of Supervisors.  The Advocate
  • A WalletHub study revealed that the average yearly cost for college in Louisiana was $34,695.92—nearly 58 percent of the average household income—as it compared tuition, fees, and other expenses across 48 states. The report noted that college costs nationwide increased 30 percent over the last 20 years and student loan debt averaged nearly $42,000.  WVLA

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Pointe Coupee Parish began a $4.9-million bayou cleanup that cleared trash and debris from a 14.5-mile stretch of Bayou Grosse Tete and a 3.5-mile section of Bayou Cholpe to improve drainage for two thirds of the parish. The project started in August and will finish in summer — officials said phase two to clean Johnson Bayou awaits permit approval.  The Advocate

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • LDH announced it will distribute all federal SNAP funds to eligible recipients within a week, including those who received only part of their November benefits. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins said benefits will be restored on November 17 — elderly and disabled recipients will receive their remaining funds next week.  WVLA
  • Shoppers at Red Stick Farmer’s Market received $20 as a temporary benefit while they awaited SNAP funds. The giveaway—part of a new effort to ease delays in food assistance—provided prompt support until government benefits arrived.  WAFB 9

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Wednesday, November 12, 2025, an LSU student organization and lung cancer survivors raised awareness at the State Capitol by placing 500 white flags—each flag marking five lives lost—to honor those taken by the disease. State Rep. Tony Bacala and survivors stressed that better early screening is needed to fight the leading cause of cancer deaths.  LSU Reveille
  • Baton Rouge Orthopaedic Clinic announced Wednesday it will end its hospital privileges at Baton Rouge General after December 11 due to months of unsuccessful negotiations—clinic leaders said they will focus on their own clinics and other hospitals to continue providing orthopedic care.  WVLA
  • Capital Area Human Services will host the 'Your Health Your Harvest' health fair in the near future — Alicia Richbourg and Bridget Lewis explained the plans for the event.  WAFB 9

SPORTS NEWS

  • A group of talented children from Park Forest Elementary will sing the national anthem at the New Orleans Pelicans game on Monday (Nov. 17) to help raise funds for their school. They were chosen after a tough audition by EBR Schools (the group has released two albums).  WVLA
