COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Bill and Charlene Ourso ask Baton Rouge residents to send birthday cards to World War II veteran Floyd Ourso, Sr. at his home at 17637 Macon Drive—he will open the cards during a party held today before his 99th birthday on Nov. 25. The veteran, who grew up in Donaldsonville, served in WWII and Korea and received several honors for his service. WVLA
- ➤ Baton Rouge General will launch its free Holiday Lights event on Nov. 22—transforming its Bluebonnet campus into a winter wonderland with walk-through features, light tunnels, singing trees, and a giant waving Santa. The lights will be open nightly at 5:30 p.m. until Dec 31 for families to enjoy the festive display. WBRZ
- ➤ KOK Wings and Things offered free meals on Sunday to families and college students impacted by the government shutdown at sites in Baton Rouge, New Iberia, and Lafayette. The restaurant is partnering with Doran and Cawthorne Law Firm and will continue the program until Nov. 30 (college students must present SNAP benefits and a college ID while families with children 12 and under need proof of SNAP benefits). - ➤ LSU student organizations served free Thanksgiving meals to residents on Sunday, Nov. 16th at the Dr. Leo Butler Community Center parking lot in Baton Rouge+ raising about $500 amid food bank shortages. Volunteers offered dishes like turkey and yams while meeting people on foot, by car and bike to support those in need. LSU Reveille
- ➤ Local businesses in Baton Rouge are hosting turkey giveaways and food drives to help families in need before Thanksgiving, with several events planned from November 19 to November 25—initiatives include community dinners and blessing days across the city. WBRZ
- ➤ Fathers from Baton Rouge and nearby parishes are invited to a football watch party at the BRCC Magnolia Building on November 22 from noon to 4 p.m.—the event will offer a listening session with food, games, Thanksgiving meal giveaways, and child care for children ages three and older. WVLA

- ➤ A new book club in Baton Rouge encourages a love for reading among girls. Empowered Girls Book Club, for third-to-eighth grade students and led by ambassador Malaysia Dumbar, meets twice a month free of charge. WVLA
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Jeff Landry announced that Louisiana SNAP recipients will receive their full federal benefits for November—elderly and disabled participants will get an extra 25% state-funded boost from November 1—4. Nearly 800,000 people depend on SNAP support in the state. WVLA
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ LSU announced that its final regular season game against Oklahoma will kick off at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 29 at the Gaylord Family+Oklahoma Memorial Stadium; the game will be broadcast on ESPN or WBRZ. WBRZ
- ➤ East Ascension’s Spartans beat West Ouachita 57-16 with strong plays from quarterback JJ LeBouef and teammates, while Donaldsonville’s Tigers shut out their opponent 18-0 to move on with 8-3 records. The Spartans will play Central at Central High School Friday and the Tigers will travel north to face Sterlington, with both teams set to face winners from later rounds. The Advocate
- ➤ LSU defeated Arkansas 23-22 at Death Valley — Michael Van Buren Jr. completed 21-of-31 passes for 221 yards and a touchdown while Caden Durham rushed for 65 yards and a touchdown — and the Tigers improved to 6-4 overall and 3-4 in conference play. They will host Western Kentucky on Saturday night. WJBO
