- ➤ Youth City Lab, Baton Rouge's first dedicated youth center, will open its doors in early spring to give kids and teens a safe place to learn new skills and receive mentorship. Located in Mid City, the center will offer programs in workforce training, bike repair, cosmetology, and performing arts — efforts aimed at reducing youth crime and promoting public safety. WBRZ

- ➤ LSU’s College of the Coast & Environment held its third annual International Thanksgiving potluck on Nov 19 at LSU where students, faculty and staff brought dishes from their home countries—ranging from American turkey to African Jollof and Brazilian sweets—to celebrate culture and community. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ West Baton Rouge Schools Superintendent Chandler Smith said tax renewals passed on the November ballot generated about $19 million — 25% of the school system's budget — for teacher salaries and benefits that will help retain staff and keep class sizes smaller. Funding will start in 2027 and is expected to offset rising health insurance and operational costs. WBRZ
- ➤ Southern University System reported a 4% rise in fall enrollment with over 14,000 students enrolled at its campuses in Baton Rouge, New Orleans and Shreveport. SU President Dennis J. Shields said the increase calls for expanded investments in services and facilities, including a $68 million STEM complex in Baton Rouge and new academic programs. WVLA

- ➤ River Parishes Community College's Brittany Terrio was named the 2025 Woman of the Year by the Louisiana Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators after her strong contributions at the Super Conference held in New Orleans from Nov 5th to 7th. - ➤ Backers of the Zachary go-kart track secured a conditional use permit on November 11 after the City Council approved a 3–2 vote that imposed new rules to address noise and dust concerns. The track must now hold races only on Fridays or Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. with a maximum of three race dates per month—changes that have sparked mixed reactions among local residents. - ➤ U.S. Rep. Cleo Fields is hosting a birthday bash fundraiser today in Baton Rouge to raise money for his 2026 reelection campaign with special guest Rep.
