COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Councilman Anthony Kenney hosted the District 2 and Friends Community Harvest at Jewel Newman Community Center on Sunday to aid local families preparing for Thanksgiving with free meals, clothing, baby items and food supplies—showing community support ahead of the holiday season.  WBRZ
  • Community members attended a free Thanksgiving dinner at the Charles R. Kelly Community Center on Sunday, with Councilman Hurst noting over 300 people were served, which he said shows the current economic need in the area + the center will host an Angel Tree event on Saturday.  WBRZ
  • The annual Cranksgiving food drive took place on Sunday at the Electric Depot on Government Street where cyclists rode around Baton Rouge to buy nonperishable items for the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank—organizer Tina Ufford said the event supported local families and businesses.  WBRZ
  • A new community grocery store opened Saturday on Hooper Road in District 2 and hosted a gumbo cook-off that crowned a Gumbo King with cash prizes. Store manager Kenneth Butler said breakfast will begin today at 4:30 a.m. with lunch and dinner served until 6 p.m. — the store aims to offer fresh produce, plate lunches, and a welcoming space for neighbors.  WBRZ
  • A Baton Rouge family led by Grammy-nominated blues artist Kenny Neal hosted The Feel Good Food Drive on Sunday—an event combining a family-led concert and food drive to support families in need. The drive, inspired by his grandson Wyatt, collected donations for the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank and will be held each year.  WBRZ
  • Kodiak and the Joe Burrow Foundation are donating 50,000 meals and snacks to help families facing hunger, nearly double last year's amount, to give healthy food during the holiday season — the meals will be distributed by local partners who serve those in need. This donation builds on their ongoing effort to support hardworking families in our community.  WVLA
  • The third annual Thanksgiving dinner served over 250 local residents to ensure no one spent the holiday alone+ organizers said the event offered a warm meal and a chance to connect with neighbors.  WAFB 9

CULTURE NEWS

  • Photographer Frank Relle began his nighttime work in the Atchafalaya Basin as the sun set and captured portraits of massive cypress trees using long exposures; his images mix natural moonlight with studio lights (set up on a small boat) to reveal a quiet, powerful beauty in the swamp (that speaks to hope in dark times).  WAFB 9
  • On November 21, LSU Zeta hosted its third annual Big Man on Campus pageant at the Varsity to raise funds for breast cancer research. Nine LSU men competed in a talent show—finance freshman Davis Dawes was crowned Big Man on Campus while Evan Couillard and Lane Brouillette earned special awards.  LSU Reveille

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Baton Rouge was named one of the nation’s Top 10 Digital Cities for the 11th consecutive year—Mayor-President Sid Edwards announced after the Center for Digital Government released its rankings on November 19th—with key upgrades such as the updated Red Stick Ready app, Real Time Crime Center and broadband expansion improving city services. The recognition marks the only Louisiana city on the list and shows the city's ongoing focus on modern operations.  WVLA

SPORTS NEWS

  • BATON ROUGE — LSU won 13-10 against Western Kentucky on November 23 when the Weeks brothers—Whit, West, and Zach—made history by playing on the field at the same time, with West recording a sack in his final game at Tiger Stadium.  WBRZ
  • Southeastern Louisiana University will host Illinois State on Saturday in the NCAA FCS playoffs at Strawberry Stadium in Hammond — the game starts at noon and the winner will face North Dakota State next.  WBRZ
