COMMUNITY NEWS

  • BR Soldier Outreach is preparing holiday care packages for deployed troops and asks local citizens to donate needed supplies—such as clothing, toiletries, and snacks. The program will deliver the packages before the holidays to support soldiers working overseas.  WAFB 9
  • Deputies with the Assumption Parish Sheriff's Office handed out turkeys in Napoleonville Tuesday ahead of Thanksgiving — Sheriff Leland Falcon personally funded the birds to show his thanks to residents.  WBRZ
  • East Baton Rouge Constable Terrica Williams helped feed local families by distributing over 200 turkeys in a partnership + with Labor Union Local 99, Walmart and Coca-Cola to reduce Thanksgiving stress across the community.  WBRZ

BUSINESS NEWS

  • After the U.S. Mint ended penny production early this month, local grocers in Baton Rouge have begun rounding cash sales to the nearest nickel. Calandro’s Supermarket on Government Street and Rouses Markets have already changed their cash policies while Benny’s Car Wash will update its system early next year.  The Advocate
  • Jim Bernhard, who died November 16, transformed local business by turning a small pipe company into The Shaw Group and later founding Bernhard Capital Partners, a firm with $5.5 billion in assets and many local jobs. Business leaders say his bold vision and long-term focus boosted the regional economy—his legacy lives on in Louisiana.  The Advocate
  • A South Carolina auto dealer closed its $56.4 million purchase of three Livingston Parish firms as it finalized the acquisition of All Star Automotive Group on Monday– the deal is part of a larger transaction involving 15 dealerships and collision centers.  WBRZ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • After a cyber attack in early October took its 529 college savings program offline, the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance said Tuesday that START, START K-12 and START ABLE accounts are now back online and were not involved in the incident—auto ACH transactions resumed on November 1 and deposits have been processed.  WBRZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport announced Tuesday that it is partnering with Metropolis, an AI company, to install new parking technology in 2,000 spaces across the short-term parking garage and economy lot + the system will let people pay with their phones and launches on Dec. 3.  WBRZ
  • Louisiana drivers are warned to buckle up this Thanksgiving to avoid a $50 fine as extra officers enforce the Click It or Ticket campaign until Nov. 28 (every vehicle occupant must be buckled up).  WVLA

SPORTS NEWS

  • Youth bowler Ava Doucet of St. Joseph’s Academy won three recent tournaments including the Gulf Coast Road 2 Junior Gold in D’Iberville and two Youth of Alabama events, marking her as a rising star ahead of the 2026 high school season. College teams also competed at the Colonial Lanes Classic in Harahan where Arkansas State won overall and Tulane’s Mia Stolakis earned MVP honors—adding to a busy fall in local bowling.  WBRZ
