  • The Baton Rouge Diocese granted a dispensation from attending Mass for Catholics affected by immigration enforcement during federal sweeps in south Louisiana. Bishop Michael Duca advised parishioners to practice home prayers and daily readings (including rosary and novena) as alternatives on Holy Days of Obligation.  The Advocate

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Louisiana businesses must file taxes online starting Jan. 1. State officials say the new system will process returns faster and help avoid penalties if businesses register on the Louisiana Taxpayer Assistance Portal (as urged by Secretary of Revenue Jarrod Coniglio).  WVLA

SPORTS NEWS

  • LSU football is headed back to the Texas Bowl in Houston for the second straight season, and the team will travel for the postseason event as planned.  WBRZ
  • LSU women's basketball reached a 10-0 record with a 126-62 win over UNO on Sunday — LSU men's basketball lost 58-82 to Texas Tech. The women will face Louisiana Tech and the men will play SMU next Saturday at Smoothie King Center.  WBRZ
  • LSU women’s basketball coach Kim Mulkey said the team will work on its defensive play after falling short against Duke on Thursday + they will face UNO Sunday at 3 p.m. on ESPN+ before opening SEC play at home against Kentucky.  The Advocate
  • LSU defensive coordinator Blake Baker signed a three-year contract extension worth $9.3 million after turning down other offers. His deal will start with a $3 million salary next season and include a $300,000 raise (if LSU finishes in the top 20 in scoring defense).  The Advocate
  • On Sunday, Dec. 7 the Saints played the Buccaneers in Tampa Bay under rainy conditions — the Buccaneers won 23-3 as the Saints, missing key players, struggled with turnovers.  The Advocate
