COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Epic Connect hosted its Grinchmas Christmas Giveaway last Sunday at Anna T. Jordan Community Park, where families enjoyed food, live music, free toys, an animal exhibit, free coats, photos with Santa and the Grinch, 50 crockpots for families, and a raffle sleepover for up to 10 kids.  WBRZ
  • Baton Rouge shelters are preparing a cold weather plan to help residents stay safe as temperatures drop + officials say centers will offer heated spaces when needed.  WAFB 9
  • A Baton Rouge non-profit is asking for donations ahead of its upcoming holiday event that will help local homeless individuals & more details on timing and location are expected soon.  WAFB 9

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Southern University Human Jukebox Marching Band earned ESPN Band of the Year on Dec. 14, 2025. Directed by Kedric Taylor — the band was chosen as the top finalist among groups from Florida A&M, Miles College, and Fayetteville State.  WVLA
  • Manship Theatre will host Amahl and the Night Visitors to celebrate the holiday season in Baton Rouge—performances are scheduled for Dec. 19 and 20 at 7:30 p.m. and Dec. 21 at 3 p.m.  WBRZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Two Baton Rouge shelters — St. Vincent de Paul and The Salvation Army — are open to help residents as temperatures dropped overnight, with libraries and community centers also offering warmth. The National Weather Service advises caution with a cold alert from 9 p.m. Sunday to 9 a.m. Monday as experts urge protection for pets, plants, and pipes.  WVLA

HEALTH NEWS

  • Doctors at Baton Rouge General are using spray-on skin technology to help burn patients recover faster with less pain and better cosmetic results. The treatment turns a small skin sample into a cellular spray that now serves as a new care method for burns and other complex wounds.  WVLA

  • LSU has begun a new era with Lane Kiffin at the helm, promising to bring discipline and new tactics to boost the football program (local insiders note several behind-the-scenes adjustments) while keeping season-ticket prices steady and unveiling the 2026 schedule.  WAFB 9
  • LSU women’s basketball beat Louisiana Tech 87-61 at the Smoothie King Center on Saturday. Coach Kim Mulkey said her team recovered quickly — led by Mikaylah Williams scoring 19 points — and will play Morgan State on Tuesday, Dec. 16 at 11 a.m. at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.  LSU Reveille
