  • Nubian Kruzers hosted its 20th annual toy giveaway today in North Baton Rouge, giving free gifts to 400 children from families in need. Parents expressed gratitude as volunteers eased holiday burdens amid ongoing economic challenges.  WBRZ
  • Councilwoman Twahna Harris hosted a community Breakfast with Santa event on Monday at Capitol Elementary School, where District 7 families enjoyed a warm breakfast and holiday activities (including gifts for children).  WBRZ
  • DRYmedic Restoration Services will give away space heaters to families from Christmas Eve to Jan. 7 — the giveaway comes after hundreds requested extra warmth in Baton Rouge.  WVLA
  • The family of fallen deputy Charles Riley will honor his memory during a traditional bonfire on Christmas Eve at 7 p.m. along the levee near Gramercy Bridge, turning a cherished family tradition into a community tribute that gathers relatives, friends & visitors to recall his joyful spirit.  WVLA
  • Constable Terrica Williams hosted her Annual Christmas Toy Giveaway at Laborers Union Hall on Monday, giving over 3,000 children gifts + partnering with LIUNA Local 99 to spread holiday cheer in Baton Rouge.  WBRZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • DOTD is widening a mile-long section of Sullivan Road between Wax Road and Hooper Road by adding an extra lane in each direction + raised medians and improved drainage to ease congestion. Drivers should expect ongoing lane shifts and adjusted left turns as the $12 million project continues.  WBRZ
  • Under a new law allowing insurers to cancel long-held policies, only Foremost Insurance (with a 2% market share) has canceled fewer than 5% of eligible policies since January. Lawmakers say the low number shows the state’s insurance market remains in crisis.  The Advocate

HEALTH NEWS

  • The American Diabetes Association released its 2026 Standards of Care — a 300-page guide that updates diabetic care practices with new screening tests and continuous glucose monitors. The guidelines are also available via an app and could change daily health routines for many Louisiana residents.  WBRZ

SPORTS NEWS

  • LSU women's basketball defeated UT Arlington 110-45, improving its record to 13-0. The Tigers will host Alabama State Sunday afternoon in Baton Rouge (two bench players combined for 48 points).  WJBO
  • Zachary High girls basketball team begins the 2025-2026 season with coach Tami McClure urging an unflappable approach as only All-State senior Ava Raymond returns from last year’s championship squad—they are set to compete at the Barbe tournament Dec. 29-30 after a 7-0 start.  The Advocate
  • LSU officially added 11 new coaches to its football staff on Monday, including seven offensive coaches, three defensive coaches, and a special teams coordinator. Head coach Lane Kiffin noted that seven of the additions came from Ole Miss (all with SEC experience) to bolster the program.  WAFB 9
