ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Baton Rouge woman was hit by a train while walking on the tracks Friday morning — she was taken to the hospital in serious condition.  WVLA
  • On August 15, Baton Rouge officials investigated a vacant house fire on Sherwood Street near Delaware Street, and firefighters kept the flames from spreading—no injuries were reported as investigators check the cause.  WBRZ

  • The editors of the Baton Rouge Business Report are accepting nominations for the 2026 Capital Region 500 list which profiles top business and community leaders—candidates must be based in the nine-parish Capital Region and submit nominations by Sept. 1—and the final list will be published in June.  225 Magazine

CRIME NEWS

  • In East Baton Rouge, three domestic violence murder-suicides occurred in August—54-year-old Alanna Singleton was killed on August 3 in Central, 24-year-old Kyra Hayes died on August 4 in Baker, and 55-year-old Mirtalarellana Ramirez was fatally shot near Florida Boulevard on August 13—while District Attorney Hillar Moore noted that five such cases have happened this year, exceeding the usual two to three.  WBRZ
  • Baton Rouge Police identified Guadalupe Reyes Vasquez, 42, as the shooter responsible for the fatal shooting of Mirtalarellana Ramirez, 55, before 6 a.m. Wednesday on Florida Boulevard—he was later found dead on Hamilton Avenue.  The Advocate
  • A boy with a neurodevelopmental condition was reported missing—authorities are also searching for a missing mom and baby in Baker.  WAFB 9
