If you're heading to Tiger Stadium, we suggest an early start: No. 14 LSU and No. 5 Alabama kick off at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. Coach Lane Kiffin has the same idea: "Whatever it is that your routine is, just move it up."

Both teams are coming off an open week, and the loser will slip into a more precarious playoff spot. LSU quarterback Sam Leavitt expects "the best defense we've played." WAFB-TV sports interns who are also LSU Tiger TV reporters broke down the game as LSU students on Friday.

  • Leavitt, past two games: seven touchdowns, zero interceptions
  • LSU's losses: Ole Miss 32-24, Kentucky 35-34 in overtime
  • Alabama's losses: Georgia 20-17, Tennessee 26-10
  • LSU's last two wins: 69-17 combined, over Mississippi State and Auburn

LSU's Leavitt ranks second in SEC passing yards, Alabama's Russell third

Saturday's LSU-Alabama game is the last until 2028, ending a 63-year annual run

If you've circled this one every November, here's the catch: Saturday is the last LSU-Alabama game until 2028. The two teams have played every year since 1964, but under the SEC's new nine-game format they aren't on each other's list of permanent opponents.

The rivalry's recent classics lead to a pause after Saturday

  1. 2011LSU beat Alabama 9-6 in overtime in the "Game of the Century."
  2. 2019LSU won 46-41 at Bryant-Denny, snapping an eight-game losing streak to Alabama.
  3. 2022LSU won 32-31 in overtime at Tiger Stadium.
  4. Aug. 2025The SEC announced a nine-game conference schedule.
  5. Nov. 7LSU hosts Alabama at 2:30 p.m. in Tiger Stadium.
  6. 2028LSU will play Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

Kiffin, who went 3-0 against LSU as Alabama's offensive coordinator, has a take on the change. "I think that's just sad," he said Monday. "I understand, so I'm not being critical."

  • Format: three every year, six rotating opponents
  • Announced: August 2025, by SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey
  • Streak: 63 straight years of annual games

The $1.16 billion proposal went to the council Thursday, and Councilman Anthony Kenney Jr. will chair the November public hearings. Edwards is working on other funding, including local businesses, but how much is secured is unclear.
